Fidya
Per Missed FastFor fasts missed due to chronic illness, old age, or death — where making up (Qada) is not possible. Fidya feeds one poor person two meals (or equivalent grain) per missed day.
Kaffarah
Broken Fast ExpiationFor intentionally breaking (not just missing) a Ramadan fast without valid reason. The expiation is to fast 60 consecutive days. If impossible, feed 60 poor people.
Understanding Fidya vs Kaffarah
🌙 Fidya (فدية)
Paid when a person cannot make up missed fasts due to chronic illness, old age, or has passed away. The amount equals the cost of feeding one poor person for one day (two meals or 1.6 kg of wheat/grain per the Hanafi school).

⚖️ Kaffarah (كفارة)
Required for intentionally breaking a Ramadan fast through eating, drinking, or marital relations. The expiation is to fast 60 consecutive days (missing one breaks the count). If medically impossible, feed 60 poor people.
