What Is Nisab?
Nisab is the minimum wealth a Muslim must own for one lunar year before Zakat becomes obligatory. It's defined by the Prophet ﷺ as 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver.
Gold vs Silver
Most scholars today recommend silver-based Nisab (lower threshold, more benefit to the poor). Gold-based is stricter and was historically preferred in some regions.
