About Qurbani
Qurbani (Udhiyah) commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS) in obedience to Allah. It is Wajib (obligatory) on every adult Muslim of sound mind who can afford it — specifically, those whose wealth exceeds the Nisab threshold at the time of Eid al-Adha.
The time for Qurbani begins after Eid prayer on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah and ends at sunset on the 12th (or 13th according to some schools). Three days total.
Distribution: The meat is traditionally divided into three equal portions — one for the household, one for friends and relatives, and one for the poor and needy. Many scholars permit donating the entire share to those in need, especially in regions where poverty is high.
Eligible animals: Sheep, goats, cows, bulls, buffalo, and camels. The animal must be of minimum age (sheep/goat: 1 year; cows: 2 years; camel: 5 years) and free from defects (blindness, lameness, illness, emaciation).
